The BMW E90 and E92 remain highly popular platforms for both street and performance driving, but the factory open differential still limits traction under load — especially during hard acceleration and cornering.
A Torsen limited slip differential solves this limitation by continuously transferring torque to the wheel with the most grip, without clutch packs, electronics, or maintenance requirements. This delivers more stable power delivery and improved handling balance across the full E90 and E92 range.

Both types use the same Torsen helical-gear design. A standard unit engages progressively based on torque demand, making it well suited for road use and fleet replacement. A preloaded unit applies a constant baseline locking force, delivering more immediate torque transfer — preferred for track builds, competition vehicles, and performance workshop fitments. Locking rate is 45–54% for standard units and 45–80% for preloaded units.
The axle type is determined by the differential casing number stamped on your existing unit. Common E90/E92 axle types include 168K, 188K, and 210K depending on engine and model specification.
