Limited Slip Differential
for BMW E46

Built by XJX Parts, our Torsen limited slip differentials are direct-fit for the full BMW E46 range — from 316i to Alpina B3 — with ready-to-install units and custom lock ratios for wholesale and performance applications.

The BMW E46 remains one of the most popular platforms for road and track use worldwide. Yet the factory open differential has a well-known limitation: under load, power routes to the wheel with the least resistance — reducing traction, stability, and drive efficiency.

A Torsen limited slip differential solves this by automatically redistributing torque to the wheel with greater grip — no clutch packs, no electronics, no maintenance. The result is more confident power delivery and improved cornering balance across the full E46 range.

Our E46 Torsen LSDs come in two configurations. Standard units engage progressively — ideal for road use and fleet replacement. Preloaded units apply a constant baseline locking force for more immediate response — preferred for track builds and performance fitments. Custom specifications are available on request.

Standard (no preload)

Standard limited slip differential
  • Torque transfer is demand-driven
  • Smooth, progressive engagement
  • Suited for road use and light performance
  • Lower NVH (noise/vibration)

Preloaded

Preloaded limited slip differential
  • Constant baseline locking force
  • Immediate, consistent torque transfer
  • Preferred for track, motorsport, competition
  • More direct driver feel

FAQs

Which BMW E46 models are compatible with your Torsen LSD?

Our Torsen LSDs cover the full E46 range, including petrol and diesel variants from the 316i to the Alpina B3s. Compatibility is determined by axle type — refer to the fitment table above, or contact us with your differential casing number and we will confirm the correct unit for your vehicle.

What is the difference between a standard and a preloaded LSD?

Both types use the same Torsen helical-gear design. A standard unit engages progressively based on torque demand, making it well suited for road use and fleet replacement. A preloaded unit applies a constant baseline locking force, delivering more immediate torque transfer — preferred for track builds, competition vehicles, and performance workshop fitments. Locking rate is 45–54% for standard units and 45–80% for preloaded units.

How do I identify which axle type my E46 has?

The axle type is determined by the differential casing number stamped on your existing unit. Common E46 axle types include 168L, 168K, 188K, and 210K. If you are unsure, contact us with your VIN or casing number and we will identify the correct fit.

Can I order a custom torque bias ratio?

Yes. We offer custom TBR configurations for motorsport, competition, and application-specific builds. Contact us with your vehicle setup and intended use, and our engineering team will advise on suitable specifications. Sample and production lead times are available on request.

What is your minimum order quantity?

We supply both single units and bulk orders. Volume pricing and OEM/ODM label options are available for distributors and workshops. Contact us for a trade quote.

Do you offer OEM or private-label packaging?

Yes. If you have a legally registered trademark, we can supply units in your branded packaging. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

What is your lead time and shipping terms?

Standard units are available for immediate dispatch. Custom configurations typically require 45–60 days from order confirmation. We ship globally and support DDP, FOB, and EXW terms depending on your location and order volume.

Do your differentials come with a warranty?

Yes. All standard units carry a manufacturer’s warranty and are 100% tested before dispatch. Terms for custom-specification builds are available on request.
